The Dolphin Card Beta Begins!
This latest AQUA 0.3.0 update brings something truly exciting: the Dolphin Card! This virtual Visa card allows you to spend Bitcoin just like you would with a regular credit card. Selected beta testers can now load up a virtual card using Bitcoin (BTC) and Liquid Bitcoin (L-BTC) for everyday purchases online. The Dolphin Card bridges the gap between Bitcoin and traditional payments, making it easier than ever to use your sats in the real world.
The Bitcoin Superapp Intensifies
The Dolphin Card isn’t just a convenient way to spend Bitcoin, it’s a major step towards AQUA becoming the ultimate Bitcoin Superapp. Our goal is to give the billions of unbanked not just access to Bitcoin, but also a way to interact with the traditional fiat system without ever needing a bank.
This is a revolutionary step forward.
Imagine an unbanked person in Argentina or anywhere in the global south. They can now just download an app, load it with Bitcoin, and buy a domain and web hosting for their business - all with the Dolphin Card. They don’t need a traditional bank account or a credit score.
With AQUA 0.3.0, you can save in Bitcoin and spend over fiat rails. We’re bootstrapping financial inclusion, making it possible for more people to participate in the global economy on their own terms.
The Beta Test
For beta testers looking to get started with the Dolphin Card, navigate to the Marketplace page within AQUA. Select the Dolphin Card, and you’ll be prompted to create a JAN3 account using your email. A verification code will be sent to your email that you must input to access your card information.
After setting up your account, you can choose the design of your card. Once selected, you’ll be directed to your Card Management page, where you can view your card details, including the card number, and other relevant information. From this page, you’ll also find options to load your card using BTC, L-BTC, or Liquid USDt.
We recommend testing the card with a small amount first to ensure the loading process works smoothly. Once the card is funded, your balance will appear - it may take a moment to update.
Dolphin Cards are virtual and will have Apple Pay or Google Pay support in the coming months so you can use them in stores via tap. Right now, they can be used for any online purchase in permitted regions. The card has a maximum limit of $4,000 USD per month and the currency of the card is USD. You’ll be able to reload the card as well.
The current beta test is for users outside of the US and Canada, but we hope to have the cards for those regions ready in the coming months.
Where Can You Use Dolphin Cards?
The Dolphin Card is accepted at most merchants that support Visa transactions, however, there are certain countries where we currently classify merchants as unsupported. Check the terms of service to see what countries may be limited.
More Improvements
Beyond the Dolphin Card, we’ve enhanced the overall AQUA experience with a new OCR scanner that lets you scan addresses straight from text images. We’ve also lowered the peg-out limit to 0.00025 BTC (excluding fees) along with the minimum Liquid Bitcoin send amount to just 100 sats thanks to DiscountCT. We even color-coded addresses, making it easy to recognize them.
For USDt swaps, we’ve added Sideshift Order IDs, allowing for more transparency when converting between assets. We also re-enabled Changelly, a USDt swap provider for the US and Thailand.
